Already in 1967, a hand gliding enthusiast, constructor Juozapas Liekis with wife Vanda started collecting and compiling a collection of the 19th century – 20th century ethnic culture and technical heritage. This urged the necessity of a homestead suitable for displaying the collection.
Liekiai homestead, situated in magnificent surroundings of the Nevėžis river, was nominated in elections of the most beautiful homestead of Lithuania in 2002. In 2005, the homestead was turned into a branch of Juozas Naujalis memorial museum (currently, a branch of Kaunas District Museum).
Here, under the open sky, rare engines, agricultural machinery, steam machines, cars, craftsmen’s tools, housewares used in the countryside of Lithuania during the interwar period are displayed.
The homestead is decorated by flower gardens, non-traditional ornamentation. Another highlight – sculpture of St. Joseph’s family, a guardian of craftspeople, family and of the Universal Church (authors– Ginutis Dudaitis and Adolfas Teresius).
