Obelynė park is a botanical park that was established by naturalist, professor Tadas Ivanauskas at his homestead in Akademija village. In 1920 Tadas Ivanauskas bought 8 ha of parcelled land from Marva estate and built a residential building, the rest of facilities as well as founded the Obelynė botanical park there. The name comes from the lush and plentiful apple and hawthorn trees growing at the slopes nearby.
The area of Obelynė park is 6.5 ha. There are over 300 different species of trees and shrubs. At Obelynė park you can find one of the oldest species of trees on the planet – the ginkgo tree and the dawn redwood.
Obelynė park is an invaluable piece of cultural and historical heritage.
