Kaunas Airport was opened in 1988. July 1 in the territory of the missile base belonging to the Soviet army. The airport covers an area of 438 ha, the length of the runway is 3250 m, and the width is 45 m. The institution implementing the rights and obligations of the owner is the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania. 1994 April 6 Government Resolution No. 242 granted the status of International Airport. Currently, Kaunas Airport is the second largest passenger airport in Lithuania.
