About project

Project no. LLI-474 “Living by the Rivers: Developing Tourism Products Based on the Past and Present History of the Baltic States” – Living Rivers

All project partners are located near the beautiful rivers: Koknese and Jaunjelgava in Latvia are next to the largest river in Latvia, the Daugava, and Kaunas district is next to the longest river in Lithuania, the Nemunas. Both rivers were important trade routes in ancient times.

Today the potential of natural resources (rivers) is not sufficiently adapted to the needs of tourism. There is a lack of innovative and modern ways to show the glorious historical past of the riverside towns, a lack of common cultural events.

The main goal of the project is to promote the development of tourism based on the historical, natural and cultural heritage that is associated with life along the rivers.

The project activities will attract tourists in three ways: offer to visit new places, invite new tourists to new attractions and events in existing and new tourist areas, invite existing tourists to return and extend their stay.

Project costs amount to EUR 590,149.67, of which EUR 501,627.21 (85%) is financed by the European Regional Development Fund

Start and end of the project: from 01/01/2021 to 31/12/2022
